LAST DECEMBER, RACHEL ALVAREZ AND ELINE HOYOIS TRAVELLED TO LONDON TO COLLABORATE WITH RICHARD QUINN. IT’S WITH THE PHOTOGRAPHER ANTON GOTTLOB THAT THE TWO STYLISTS PRODUCED AN EDITORIAL DEDICATED TO RICHARD QUINN’S DESIGNS.
As a promising new designer, Richard Quinn was delighted to receive the award for the sixth edition of the H&M Design Award from Ann-So e Johansson, Creative Advisor at H&M and Chairman of the H&M Design Award Jury. Richard’s clothes are fascinating. Timeless, bold and innovative, the designer mixes the traditional 20th century cuts with New Look dresses and an ode to oral prints. He gives life to a new silhouette, with his own twist.
His collaboration with Liberty London gave him the opportunity to express himself fully through his designs and to exploit three of their iconic patterns. These were revisited at the designer’s printing studio based in South-East London. Liberty becomes the keyword, advocated on the out ts as much as on the faces of the models. While fashion is sur ng on the wave of escapism, his message is strong and positive.
It is therefore impossible to overlook a Quinn’s woman. Extraverted and complex at the same time, she deigns to hide her face under a mask – becoming almost textile – while two eyelets give her the possibility of keeping an eye on the outside world. Her universe is kitsch, she immerses herself in the 50s and 60s. However, the out ts are worked with a revolutionary touch where metallic fabrics marry iconic pieces; such as the reinterpretation of the Iphis bag. By his choice of fabrics and its oral aspect, the designer has brought a fresh wind to this piece.
It is during London Fashion Week A/W2018 that Quinn will continue his momentum and present new silhouettes lulled into its unique and colourful universe.
